Basics

So this year I'm thinking about basics.
One of the delightful drawbacks to losing weight was that I "ungrew" a bunch of my clothes and had to replace them, a process which is ongoing.
But things needed updating anyway. I'm no longer a student, I'm joining the workforce, I'm preparing to set out and blaze through the world. My old, invisible uniform of shirts and jeans in shades of "dont notice me" need to go.
Now I'm not knocking shirts and jeans. Totally nessisary and enjoyable. But with my new found confidence returned by love of skirts, dresses, tights, and color!
It is my aspiration to become a lady. A lot of this is action, thought, and behavoir. Some of it is style. I hope that this year will allow me to cultivate all sides of being a lady.
So I'm going to make decisions in 2011 with thought, and care, and with an eye for the future I'm going to build for myself. And when building a foundation, of any kind, its good to start with basics.
So thats what I'm going to do.

Kate Spade
I have no holiday parties to go to this year, no jetting off to paris on a wild and lovely trip. I, instead, have a pair of cozy pajama's and lots of mythbusters on television.
But if I were going to a holiday party, I'd imagine myself going in one of these charming frocks.

Yes!

It may just be a wig, it may be for a role, but I love this haircut!
I love her, I think she's quite pretty, and I love it when pale, pretty girls get short hair, cuz that makes me feel like I'm going in the right direction.
I am totally taking this photo in for my next haircut.
Plus, pretty dress.

Via TLo, my souce of all things fashionable. (even though they disagree about the dress.)

Classics

Confession that is probably obvious. I love to shop. I love clothes! (I love other things too, but for the moment we're gonna talk about clothes shopping.)
For me it doesnt matter where I shop. I am an avid thrifter, and have found many of my favorite things from thrift stores, for astonishing prices.
I have a lot of fun clothes, beautiful summer dresses, well fitting jeans, brightly colored t-shirts. They're great fun.
However, as a hopeful young professional, I needed some more work wear, so thats what I set out to get.
Yesterday I did some serious shopping and aquired some work wear peices, all quite classic, in neutral colors. A pencil skirt, a pair of modest (yet adorable) tights, and an absolutly gorgeous black and white dress that looks like it came from the 60's, and while gorgeous, is also work appropriate.
I'm already happily planning outfits.
Though I admit I bought a fun, French-ish striped t-shirt as well. You know, because its fun. It might be work appropriate, on a more casual day.
At the end of the day I looked into my shopping bag and was amused by the nutrality of my bag. Black, white, grey.
I love color, and plan to pair these items with some pretty colored peices, but theres no denying that most of the timeless, classic peices are neutrals.
Pretty, pretty neutrals!
I will someday get my camera fixed, so I can show you.

Quirk

It is one of my goals is to be this adorable. Perhaps this will help me get there?

I'm totally going to do a series of posts on people (and fictional characters) with great style, who I want to emulate. You can bet that she's gonna be on the list.

Button, button

So, anyone have interesting plans for Easter? I plan on sitting around and reading my book, and wishing the spring weather would come back. It feels like November out there, and all the flowering trees look perplexed.
In a perfect world I would pass Easter in this sweater. Look at its little buttons! So sweet with jeans or a pink or china blue skirt, and my signature flats.
Later lets talk about my spending hiatus, but for now lets admire the pretty.

P.S. That resolution about fixing my camera? hasnt happened yet, now has it. Hmm.

For a rainy day

Oh coat! You are absolutly perfect in every possible way. I would wear you with a yellow dress and sky blue shoes, and a cream colored bow in my hair.

Why is everything pretty I find online so expensive? Modcloth, I love you dearly, but become cheaper, please.

Fashionable

I dont know what it is, but I've seen so many stylish ladies wandering around lately.
Fashion has taken a turn for the cute, with berets, striped shirts, ballet flats, and little capes.
I approve.
I used to be a very shy girl, and I wore things that would keep attention away from me, and particularly my body. Like so many young women, I was plauged with poor body image, and while I have always loved pretty clothes, I used to wear pretty things with great self conciousness, and an idea that the pretty thing itself would be noticed, and I would mercifully be left out of the attention.
Fortunatly I'm not the same girl I was when I left high school. I've got a much more positive body image, and a newfound love of being pretty, and I'd like to cultivate this desire.

Now that I've reached a more comfortable view of my body I am in short supply of a) clothing that fits my body, and b) clothing that fits my idea of a stylish lady.
The former (and, admittedly, the latter) is because I am sixty pounds lighter then I was when I graduated high school, a big accomplishment for me.
Now the trick is finding a style that makes me feel fantastic.
